Association of Czech Caraway is an association of individuals and body comporates involved in growing, processing and trade with cumin in the Czech Republic. The Association was founded on the basis of practical requirements from February 21st of 1996 at the Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno.
Intensive breeding have also caused intense involvement of science and research in this area. Workers from research institutes and representatives of agricultural universities are also involved in these issues. Currently, there are workers from AGRITEC Šumperk and Mendel University in Brno.
In year 2004 the association applied for designation of origin Czech Caraway in the EU. After four years of effort the association managed to justify this request. From this year, it is 2008, is a commodity Czech Caraway a holder of a protected designation of origin within the EU.
The Czech Republic has specific conditions suitable for the caraway growing given by the soil composition and environmental conditions in connection with tradition. Long-term experience in the cultivation of caraway is irreplaceable. This obliges us to further systematic work in this field.
